It is nap time in my house and not a regular workday for me so I have the luxury of sitting down to read the Design Aglow: Issue 5 (The Success Issue). Yes, Design Aglow has had a busy week with the release of the new online magazine and holiday card templates. If you have never read an issue of Design Aglow it is totally worth going back and buying the previous article collections too. The articles are very detailed AND the photography, of course, is inspirational.
I could spend all day looking at the pictures of Jen Thompson's studio space. Gorgeous location and bright colors inside. I'm keeping this saved for inspiration in case I ever setup my own space (other than my sales office). Now wiping the drool off my chin.
The interview with Jesh de Rox he talks about his Beloved concept which I think is awesome. I frequently see engagement session pictures from other photographers and wish I had pictures like that of my husband and I (instead of the very formal posed ones we had done). And I think about how much more we love and appreciate each other now after 5 years of marriage (and we are more comfortable with each other too).
Ah, that's as far as I got today during nap time. The articles are long and encourage thinking about your own processes as you are reading them so for me, it took a little while to digest as I worked my way through. Maybe Friday I can read some more (I'll be working at my desk the next three days). I'm also trying to firm up my definition of success. What is your definition of success?

To me, success is when all of my needs are met, and I can focus on the needs of others.
I've seen tons of people focusing on the needs of others before meeting their own needs, and that's not success. I've seen people whose own needs are met, and they start focusing on their wants - that's not success either.

To me success is finding balance in my life and knowing when to tip it toward a particular part of life that needs a little extra and then bring it back to center. I have a hard time with that. I've been a "photographer" for 10 years, but just actively started my business and balance is so hard for me right now. So when I find it, I'll feel I've succeeded.
